Club Meeting: April 20, 2012: Busting Boulder Fields by Jerry Audet

Busting Boulder Fields: Beyond the Basics

by Jerry Audet

Boulder fields are found throughout the entire Striper Coast, but are particularly prevalent in New England. They are some of the “fishiest” locations along our coast, and tend to be very consistent producers of large fish all season long. They are also some of the most challenging places to fish and require dedication, knowledge, and skill to access completely. Boulder fields are Jerry’s favorite place to fish- especially at night. He will be discussing why he fishes them, how he chooses and dissects the best locations, and some of his tactics for catching, landing, and releasing fish in the heavy structure.

Jerry Audet is a dedicated surf fisherman, who fishes both flies and plugs. He regularly fishes a huge swath of the coast from Long Island Sound to Acadia. Jerry loves trying to unlock the secrets of an area or particular spot; he is far less concerned with reeling the fish in or the “fight”. As such, he has become particularly known for his in-depth discussions of fishing philosophy, structure analysis, and fly/plug presentation. Jerry is a writer and photographer with regular contributions to magazines like Surfcasters Journal, The Fisherman, and On the Water.

Our club meetings have moved online to Zoom for the duration of the Covid Emergency. The club business meeting will start at 7 pm and the fishing seminar will begin around 7:45.

Club Meeting: February 16, 2021: Plugging the Water Column by Julio Silva

Plugging the Water Column
by
Julio Silva

In this seminar you will learn:

  • How to fish the entire water column: from spooks to jigs and everything in between.
  • How to select the proper gear for what you are casting and when and where you should be casting it.
  • How to select a plug based on tide, structure, current, time-of-year (TOY), and time-of-day (TOD).
  • How to store and manage your gear without breaking the bank.
  • How to manage your time on and off the water.
  • How to create your own spots database.

I will share lessons learned from years of experience on the surf so you can safely take your surfcasting to the next level.

Julio Silva is an all species, all methods angler. During the hours that he should be sleeping, he fishes for anything that swims via shore, boat, kayak, and skishing. He has been blogging for 11 years.  His blog overflows with DIY projects ranging from a multi-functional fishing bucket to a custom Gloucester Light Dory that he built from marine plywood and blueprints.  He has been delivering fishy seminars for 9 years. He was the President of the Plum Island Surfcasters for 4 years.  He has rods like his wife has shoes. Fishing is indeed his mistress. During his seminars, he answers all questions without secrecy.

Fishing Haddock and Cod With Light Tackle

It is not like when our fathers did it. It no longer needs to be like bringing up an old boot. With all the changes in size seasons and numbers, but most of all the improvements in the tackle, ground fishing can be a lot of fun! We will be going over not just the gear, but also how best to use it.

Please join us on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 for another great angling seminar. Our monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Salisbury, MA Hilton Senior Center, (43 Lafayette Rd., Salisbury, MA). The doors open at 6:45 PM.
