Club Meeting on October 16, 2018: “Striper Fishing the Rocks” by Allan Butler

Club Meeting on October 16, 2018

Striper Fishing the Rocks

by Allan Butler

One of the most exciting places to fish for striped bass is a rocky shoreline, whether it is from land or boat.  We will be talking about how to fish it,  whether seas are flat or there are mountains of water crashing on the rocks.

Allan will be covering;

  • How to fish a rocky shoreline from a boat or shore
  • What makes one rocky spot better than another
  • When to use hardware, flies, or bait
  • The best conditions, safety, and how to land your fish

He will go over what you need to do to put yourself on fish, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned angler.

Please join us on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 for another great angling seminar. Our monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at PITA Hall on Plum Island (8 Plum Island Turnpike, Newbury, MA.) The doors open at 6:45 PM. Dinner is served at prices that will not break the bank.  The club meeting starts at 7:15 PM. After the meeting, we have a seminar by a featured angler. Seminars are free for club members; there is a $5.00 charge for non-members. Membership information is available here.

Club Meeting on September 18, 2018: Round Table Review of Fishing Season

We will have two discussion groups: one for surf fishing and one for boat fishing.
To all Surf Fishermen:  Please bring a favorite lure (or two) to show everyone.
We currently have no one cooking dinner for the September meeting.  If you can provide or serve dinner, please let us know.

On September 18, 2018 our club meeting will be the annual end-of-summer fishing round table. Come learn what worked and what didn’t from our fellow club members.

We will also have a brief presentation from John Macone of the Merrimack River Watershed Council.

Founded in 1976, Merrimack River Watershed Council (MRWC) is dedicated to promoting a clean and accessible Merrimack River and watershed. As “the voice of the Merrimack,” the Council’s mission is to protect, improve, and conserve the Merrimack River watershed for people and wildlife through education, recreation, advocacy, and science.

Fishing Trip on Tuesday, August 21, 2018

The Parker River Wildlife Refuge beaches are again open for fishing.  Lots 1, 2, 6, and 7 opened on August 13, 2018.  So let’s get out there and fish!

Next Tuesday is our August club meeting date and club fishing trip.  Meet at Plum Island Airport.  We will head over to the Wildlife Refuge where we have a group parking deal offered to us.  Assemble at the airport around 7 pm.   Plan on beachfront fishing, not jetty fishing.  Bring your own gear, lures, and bait.

Please be at the Airport by 7 pm.  We want to head over to the Wildlife Refuge together to get  all cars in as a group for the parking discount (paid by the club.) Car-pooling is encouraged to limit the number of vehicles.  Latecomers may need to pay for entry ($5).

Anyone who remains on the refuge past sunset needs a walk-on night permit.  You may want to purchase that Tuesday evening.

If you are a complete novice (especially if you don’t have gear), it will be better to wait for the September Junior’s Fishing event at the wildlife refuge for your first outing with the club.  The club can provide gear and more instruction at the Juniors event.

Aug. 21: Tuesday evening club meeting at 7 pm: Fishing the Plum Island Beachfront. Meet at Plum Island airport. Directions.
